What is Expandable Polyurethane Foam Sealant ?

Expandable Polyurethane Foam Sealant  is dispensed as a frothy liquid which expands and moisture-cures into a solid foam insulation and sealant. One-component foam is used to fill and seal small cracks and voids such as around door and window frames, sill plates, electrical devices where air leakage and energy loss can occur. Formulations are available for general use and specific applications such as sealing windows and doors, fire blocking, and construction adhesive.

How to use PU foam Sealant

Adopter / Straw Type PU foam Spray can

  1. Clean the application area with water spray
  2. Moisten the area with Water spray .PU foam adheres to almost all surfaces that are strong, clean and free of dust and grease. Only silicon, oils, greases, polyethylene,Teflon or similar surfaces are not suitable for PU foam. Surafce must be dampened enough to ensure that the PU foam finds adequate moisture for its hardening process. Otherwise, it could impair the adhesion and edge adhesion.
  3. Attach the Straw on the can
  4. Shake the can vigorously  for 20 to 25 times
  5. Use the can upside down, Foam cans need to be held so that the valve faces downwards. This is the only way to completely empty the can.
  6. Press the trigger , foam will rush out of the can under pressure .
  7. Keep shaking the can .
  8. Plan the work such that entire can material is consumed in ‘one GO’,  ie: after opening the can , it should be completely consumed , whatever is left will be cured inside the can wasted.
  9. The foam cures in 20- 40 minutes depending upon weather conditions.
  10. After curing , extra foam can be cut with a sharp knife .
  11. Pu foam is paintable . PU foam is not UV resistant – should not be exposed to direct sunlight. If unavoidable – paint the foam to protect from sunlight.

Gun  PU foam can

  1. Clean the application area with water spray

  3. Attach the gun on the spray can , hold the gun such that the can is upside down .
  4. Adjust the knob at the end of gun to control dispensing speed/quanity. Press Gun trigger for application .
  5. Keep shaking the can.
  6. Gun mounted  can be used and stored for a day or two , provided the tip of gun is sealed from moisture – using grease etc.
  7. The foam cures in 20- 40 minutes depending upon weather conditions.
  8. After curing , extra foam can be cut with a sharp knife .

  10. After emptying  the can , mount the PU cleaner – press  till entire foam is extruded from the gun and the gun is free from foam .
  11. Gun and cleaner can be removed and stored till next usage .

Applications of PU foam Sealant :

Filling of joints, seams and cracks in:

- partition walls with ceilings

- structural space between window- and door frames and walls

- structural and fitting space between prefabricated construction elements

- around cables and pipes, penetrations through walls and ceilings

- gluing panels/ insulating sheets
